Back to basics

posted by Megan on December 19, 2007

I always think things will slow down toward the end of the year – less news, more shopping – and every year I'm surprised when I'm wrong. (Says something, doesn't it?) This year, true to form, was no exception. It's been busy.

Lately, we've worked on several major announcements with clients, and I'm thrilled they've all gone well. But the outcome wasn't by chance. We're still in the process of conducting our "lessons learned" sessions (and there are always lessons learned), but I wanted to share a few things that keep coming up from our team:

  • No matter how creative you get, none of it matters if you forget the basics – execution, responsiveness and attention to detail. I've seen far too many great ideas ruined by the little things. Thankfully, not in our house.
  • Say what you mean. I can't figure out why it's so hard for people to just say what they mean. What's the point of big words if no one has any clue what you're talking about? Again, not in our house. We don't know any big words. :-)
  • Bloggers are people too, and they're important people. Treat them that way. I guess people are starting to figure that out, but come on, did we really need to see a post like this to be reminded?

Maybe next year we'll get more time to think about holiday shopping… but I doubt it.
