College: The Way It is Now

posted by Morgan on September 3, 2008

I've been out of college a few years, but it seems like a lifetime ago because technology is changing the way millions of students today are experiencing college. If I were headed to college in the fall as part of the class of 2012, I wouldn't have to leave much to the imagination. I would "meet" my roommate on Facebook, which with the amounts of information revealed on profiles, I could get to know her quite well. I would research my professors online, and then customize my schedule based on ratings. I might even be lucky to find digital texts for my classes, which would save me a few hundred dollars. Rather than carrying around a floppy disc, I would just store my email, papers, and notes in the cloud and access them using GMail and Docs. If I miss a class, I would go online and watch my professor's lecture. And, I wouldn't have to be at a computer to watch the lecture, I could even watch it on the iPhone my university gave me for free.
