Cutline Speaks

Hello, Kindle.

Back in December of 2007, when it was first announced, Megan and I had a little disagreement over the Kindle. She argued that most consumers are like her and not quite ready to turn in their paperbacks. In the spirit of openness and debate, something we pride ourselves on here at Cutline, I questioned whether or not most consumers are really like her. Indeed, I thought (and wrote), some are like me, and they’ll welcome the Kindle with open arms.

Well, as much as I pride myself on being an early adopter (I've written numerous times about my closet full of once-cool-but-really-just-a-passing-phase gadgets), I just couldn't make the leap with the Kindle. To Megan's point, the price tag was indeed a little steep for me, and I questioned the content. But times change and so do opinions. And, alas, I've just ordered the Kindle 2, and I'm super excited for it to arrive so I can check it out. Everyone I know who has one loves it, and I'm sure I'll love mine just the same.

Granted, I also love turning pages and curling up on the couch with a good book. I happen to prefer hardcover books, and I have loads and loads of them. Some I've never even read so it's not like I don't have plenty to keep me occupied. But with the Kindle, I can get even more information, and I can do so quickly and easily. If I don't like a book, I can order a new one. I can take it on trips near and far, and I can certainly curl up on the couch with it. Now I just hope that the static from my Snuggie doesn't interfere with my soon-to-be-favorite new toy!

Stay tuned for my Tech Toybox review... coming soon to a web page near you! Perhaps even on your Kindle!
