iPhone: The New Beginner’s Toolkit
posted by The Cutline Team on February 25, 2009
I'm a stereotypical girl. I like jewelry, high heels and the color pink. My apartment is full of candles, ruffled clothing and matching bathroom accessories; you get the picture. These things come in handy when I want to host a great dinner party, but they won't help me when I need to put a towel rack up in the bathroom - by myself. Case in point: I don't own a drill, or any of the necessary tools it takes for that matter, to fix, attach or put together any of the girlie accessories my apartment happens to be full of.
Luckily, my iPhone has proven to be much more useful than just a way to make calls and check my email. I've found and downloaded some great apps that are pretty darn handy at getting my minor home-improvement jobs done.
So for all you women who are like me and just can't bring yourselves to devote your dollars to starting a tool collection rather than a sunglass collection, enjoy.
- iHandy Level is a great little helper for hanging pictures, shelves and yes, even towel racks, when you don't have a real-life level handy.
- Kitchen Timer is perfect for cooking a large meal. It times not only what I've got baking in the oven, but also what's cooking on all four burners - all at the same time. Amazing.
- TapeMeasure is an easy way for me to accurately measure the width of my living room by walking from one side to the other to see if my new couch will fit.
- The Caliper is helpful for taking those smaller, precise measurements, up to the length of my iPhone, just like my non-existent ruler would.
- vFlashlight is an oh-so-simple tool that seems unnecessary until you're stuck in a dark apartment, by yourself, with three actual flashlights that have all run out of batteries. No, I've never done that.
