Looking for a way to “go green” this year?

If you never got around to replacing your conventional light bulbs with energy efficient CFLs, here's another easy way you can go green. Recycle your old cell phone. According to the E.P.A- (Environmental Protection Agency) old cell phones deteriorate in landfills, and with an estimated 150 million cell phones taken out of service each year, hazardous materials like metals, plastics, glass and chemicals can do serious harm to our environment and our health. The E.P.A's "Recycle Your Cellphone. It's an Easy Call" campaign offers useful information about recycling cell phones, and its website lists drop-off locations and also mailing information. My neighborhood AT&T store is just blocks from my apartment and will accept unwanted cell phones, PDAs, batteries, and accessories regardless of brand name.Your hardware recycling program isn't limited to cell phones. Sites like buymytronics.com will purchase your broken iPods, iPhones, Zunes and game consoles. The company will calculate a value based on the model and condition, send you money, and then ensure the parts don't end up in landfills. Other sites such as Rapid Repair will attempt to fix your broken electronics, and if they are beyond repair, they will recycle them for you instead.
