My 2009 Splurge: The Hub
posted by The Cutline Team on March 25, 2009
I recently entered a new stage of my adult life that's very exciting: living with the boy. Which means coordinating weeknight dinner or movie dates will be much easier, but discussions about shared expenses and being more frugal -- not so much.
I know times are tough and fiscal responsibility is killing retail, but there's one household "must-have" we will definitely be splurging on once we settle in: the Verizon Hub.
I've never been keen on the idea of having a "home phone" -- most people my age use their cell phones as their primary number nowadays. But once I saw the commercial, I was hooked. (Ah, the power of advertising.)
Some things I love about this device:
- It uses your broadband network to make calls and doesn't use an old-school phone line, which makes me feel like it's cooler than a landline.
- It's like a computer in that you can manage your contacts and calendars, check the traffic and weather, and even buy movie tickets and pizza!
- It looks oh-so-much prettier than the old phone at your parents' house.
And best of all, I love that I'll now be able to send my boyfriend to the grocery store and know that he'll come back with exactly the right items on the list. No more "I didn't know what that was, so I grabbed this instead" stories, because I'll be able to send him picture texts through the Hub saying, "No honey, THIS is kale."
