Nutshell: A free productivity tool?

posted by Morgan on April 30, 2009

One of the reasons I love my iPhone is that I can do a lot of different things -- like check email, read my news, track my nutrition and training, listen to my music - all from one place. Naturally, when I came across this site called NutshellMail, I was instantly intrigued.  It's an online tool that allows you to manage all of your online communications such as emails, Facebook updates and Tweets, in one place. I love the idea of having one place where I can see all my communications, rather than logging in to various accounts. You can even customize a specific delivery time to receive your Nutshell notification and have it sent to your primary email account, which may help me be more productive and cut down on checking accounts every single time a message appears.

One other cool feature that I spotted in the video below is the ability to manage your Twitter account from email. I love that idea. There's something just a bit more comfortable and manageable about using Twitter in email. Oh, and, for any of you who are blocked from accessing your favorite sites like Gmail or Facebook at work, you're in luck. Nutshell claims this is one way that you can access your personal communications at work while not "undermining your employer's policies." In the past, I worked for one of those companies that block access to sites such as web-based email and IM clients. I'd be very interested to hear from IT executives at large enterprises about what they think of this kind of service.

What do you think about Nutshell? Would you use a tool like this?
