Oh, the places you’ll go…with technology

posted by Morgan on February 12, 2010

My fifth grade teacher used to tell me that books are great places to meet new friends and travel to new places. The same is true for technology. For example, I can use Google Earth to sightsee around the world, tour baseball stadiums in the U.S. or visit museums.

Now I get to "attend" two awesome sporting events -- the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games and the Mavericks surf contest -- thanks to innovative technology.

First up, I can take a trip to the Winter Games in Vancouver thanks to Street View in Google Maps! Google took snowmobiles with cameras to photograph the roads, slopes and venues setup for the Winter Games.  What's really cool is you can hit the slopes where the world's fastest skiers and snowboarders will race for the Gold; take a stroll through Whistler Village; or take in the view at the top of Whistler's peak. You can do all of this without putting on a hat and scarf.

Now for the Mavericks: While Half Moon Bay is only a quick 30-minute car trip away, I love the idea of watching the Mavericks live on a webcast or being able to go to AT&T park to watch it on the big-screen televisions.

Isn't technology great?!

Good luck to all of this year's athletes competing in the Winter Games (Go Team USA!) and to the surfers riding the big-waves at the Mavericks.

PS: If you are itching to see the coverage of the Olympics, check out these tips on how to stream from anywhere.
