Reasons to Love 2009

posted by The Cutline Team on January 14, 2009

For a team that craves and consumes media and information like Cutline, 2008 was a fast and exciting year for us -- full of unforgettable events of dread and inspiration, but also new technology, advanced exploration and cutting-edge innovation (even if a bit delayed). In fact, the compelling and historic nature of the events of 2008 might suggest that 2009 has a lot to live up to for anyone on the lookout for the latest and most intriguing news.

So while we feel nostalgia for last year, we are looking forward to what's to come in 2009. One fact we can count on in the coming year -- it's sure to be full of surprises! Below are some of the things we're looking forward to in the upcoming year:

* Transition to Digital Signals - This year the United States and many other countries are freeing up the airwaves to make room for some exciting new wireless technologies. Though it is unclear what will ultimately happen to the wireless spectrum distribution, it is likely that access to high-speed wireless Internet will be more affordable to a wider variety of users. Plans from companies like Verizon are already in the works for 4G Wireless deployments by the end of the year.

* New Gadgets - Continued advancement in consumer electronics, especially as open source platforms are being adopted in the mobile industry. Check out Gizmodo's nifty guide to the most anticipated new technologies for 2009, including their own ideal handheld design - the "iPhone Pro."

* Stronger Peer-to-Peer Communities - As social networking has grown to be part of global business and personal life, 2009 may hold a more local focus for communities moving forward. Sites like MeetUp.com are launching personalized social networking that brings group members face-to-face for local events while larger sites like Facebook are battling with customized, local sites used immensely in Europe and the Netherlands.

* Social Networking and Search Main Focus for Businesses - While the past few years have been spent getting acclimated with search and social tools in the business arena, these tools will be a central focus for business leaders and their customers in 2009.

What are the things you're most excited about this year?
