Shake it Like a Polaroid Picture
posted by LizM on October 7, 2009
If you love the unique look of a Polaroid picture and the instant gratification you get from taking one as much as I do, you'll be excited to learn that a group of Dutch scientists and an Austrian salesman plan to begin the production and redistribution of Polaroid film. Although this project will be no easy task, as production is set to take place in an abandoned Polaroid factory, the group of pioneers plan on re-creating the classic film.
The scientists faced a few bumps in the road while getting started; the majority of the necessary equipment and chemicals needed to produce the film either had to be salvaged from a junk yard or were not easily accessible. Despite these challenges, the group strongly believes that "people still have room in their hearts for retro photography," and they are determined to bring back "the importance of analog aspects in a more and more digital world."
There are an estimated one billion Polaroid cameras in circulation to date, and I'm sure the proud owners will be excited to pull them out of their closets and put them to good use. It might be the nostalgia that comes along with taking a Polaroid picture, or the fact that you don't truly appreciate something until it's gone; whatever the case, I am definitely looking forward to bringing my Polaroid camera out of retirement!
