Taxes 2009: Free advice, free food

posted by Morgan on April 15, 2009

What was on people's mind when preparing for tax season this year? Finding free advice on how-to complete tax forms. USA Today reported that people who prepared their own taxes increased by 17% this year. Additionally, MarketWatch reported that one of the most pressing questions leading up to tax day is how to prepare a tax extension

This do-it-yourself movement may not be surprising considering that in this down economy people are looking for ways to do things on their own. Thankfully, free advice on how to complete your taxes is readily available on the Internet. In a quick search online, I found the New York Times line-by-line guide to completing tax forms, as well as H&R Block’s Facebook page which includes tips and information, as well as invites to local events to receive free tax advice. Even restaurants -- places like Taco Del Mar, T.G.I Fridays, Cinnabon -- are offering free stuff to people on tax day, including free gift cards, free bites and discount on future entrees. I would suggest that you run not walk to claim your free food. According to Google Trends, “free tax day goodies” is one of the top 5 search queries today.

Did you find any cool money-saving tax tips this year?
