The Go-To Geek

posted by The Cutline Team on August 13, 2008

I've had my iPhone 3G for about two weeks now, and it has already improved my life. For years, I carried around a clunky cell phone and a fourth generation iPod, so when I heard about iPhone 3G, I decided the combination of a phone with an iPod and a digital camera alone was worth the price of admission. That was before I had the chance to experience the superior mobile browser, email access and data connection speeds. And I didn't even mention Apple's original (and wildly successful) collection of mobile applications. Not only does the device take up less space and look much more stylish than my old cell phone, it has turned me into the "go-to geek" for mobile Internet connectivity among my friends.

I'll give you a few examples of what I mean. Last Monday, while at the Giants game, I decided to take advantage of the AT&T Park WiFi to inform some fellow baseball fans of the age of visiting Atlanta Braves all-star catcher Brian McCann (He's 24). Another time, my friends and I were getting nostalgic, talking about watching TV as a kid, so I pulled up two of my favorite board game commercials. The enthusiasm of their responses was rivaled only by their resemblance to actual giddy children. Then, there were the numerous times when I was commissioned to look up things like movie listings, pizza delivery numbers or the weather. Now, I don't think it will be very long before my friends have similar high speed mobile devices, so I'm going to revel in my status of being more connected than everyone else while I still can. =)
