When in Doubt, Quantcast…
posted by The Cutline Team on October 8, 2008
If you're in PR and don't know about Quantcast, you definitely should. Personally, I'm a huge fan!. It's a free, online media measurement service that contains in-depth and informative profiles on millions of websites by allowing publishers to easily report on their audience metrics such as traffic, demographics, geography and more - whatever they decide to make public. I find it really comes in handy when you can't locate the specific data you need.
Let's take smallbiztechnology.com for example. On their website it states they reach "thousands of small businesses each month," which is true, but what if I want to know the exact number of people it reaches each month for reporting purposes? Anyone who works in PR understands how important it is to have exact and up-to-date metrics for these things. Quantcast can really help here.
Not only will you find an up-to-date monthly tracking number on smallbiztechnology.com, or any other website who's published themselves on Quantcast for that matter, but also information on the website's readership such as gender, age, total household income, geographic location, ethnicity, level of education, and more. Some of this information is even translated into graph form on each website's profile, to a nice visual effect.
So next time you're not able to pull the information you want and you can't find what you need on the website itself, give Quantcast a try; they may just have what you're looking for.
